If you are experiencing issues with your Akita, please do not give up on your dog or surrender to a public shelter. We can help!

Was your Akita involved in an incident with another dog or human? Do you need a referral to an attorney that specializes in Animal Law?

RESCUE

ADVOCACY

ADVOCACY

When all else fails, do not fail your dog or abandon him/her at a shelter. Your dog deserves better. We can help you re-home your Akita into a safe, loving, forever home.

The cold, hard truth

  • If you take your dog to a public animal control agency or humane society, it is considered  an "owner surrender" and he/she may be euthanized immediately or within hours after you leave.
  • Rescues all across the United States are at capacity, which means they probably have no room for your dog.
  • Considering re-homing your dog? Using local newspapers or the internet to re-home your dog is oftentimes a death sentence. Many dogs on Craigslist end up being used as bait dogs (dogs used to hone the skills of aggressive dogs within dog fighting rings), or are used for "live shooting/target practice" in the desert. HORRIFIC, but true.

a serious commitment

There are many reasons a dog ends up in a shelter, and most often, it's not the dog's fault. Here are some of the reasons people have provided for giving up their Akitas:

  • Moving (to new home/city/state where dogs are not allowed)
  • Got a new girlfriend/boyfriend who doesn't like dogs (or, specifically, YOUR dog)
  • New girlfriend/boyfriend's dog or cat doesn't get along with your dog
  • Getting married, getting a divorce, having a baby
  • Suddenly developed allergies to the dog
  • Owner has died/is going into assisted living or hospice care
  • Got another dog/cat/etc. and the Akita is not getting along with it
  • "It's too big" or "It sheds too much"
  • Too busy/No time for the dog/Bored/Wants a new dog or puppy
  • "Redecorating home and no longer have a Japanese-themed décor"
